2,300 retail outlets participated in the Dubai Shopping Festival this year selling a myriad commodities.
The participants included retailers of;

- haute couture
- perfumes
- jewellery
- cars
- handicrafts
- electronic goods
- clothing
- textiles
- electrical items
- soft furnishings
- household goods
In 2008, the grand opening ceremony was held on January 24th at Dubai Festival City.
The opening ceremony reflected the growth of Dubai over the years and included light and sound shows in the form of laser displays and brilliant fireworks.
The theme of the Dubai Shopping Festival is "One World! One Family! One Festival!"
People from all over the world attend.
The prestigious Dubai World Cup horse racing meeting also takes place during the festival, when $12 million dollars is available in purse money, making it the biggest horse-racing prize money awarded on a single day anywhere in the world!
Imagine! The husband could attend the horse races with his male friends, whilst the wife goes on a shopping spree with her female friends!!
Then they can all meet up for a lovely meal in a high class restaurant afterwards!!!
